August Update

It’s been an action-packed month here at Re-Member. Our buildings have been bursting with volunteers, and we have been hard at work completing much needed projects out in the community.

We recently completed a rather large and special project, replacing the old deck and ramp at KILI Radio. With consistent threats to funding, organizations like KILI are existing in uncertain times. We are glad to be able to support essential community resources like KILI as we are able. We are grateful to all KILI staff for all their efforts to keep the community entertained and informed. We also appreciate their great vibes as we worked on this project!

We are currently hosting our healthcare week – a parallel program that offers a deeper look into healthcare here on the reservation and in the nearby region. Healthcare week volunteers learn from various local healthcare professionals, tour healthcare facilities and engage with the community to offer information and resources related to health specific needs. We are so grateful to all the folks who have made this week such a wonderful addition to Re-Member programming!

There is no Oglala Nation powwow this year, but we have attended many powwows in communities around the reservation. It is always a good time celebrating a summer evening with community, song and dance. We’ll be in Manderson for the powwow and horse races this weekend! The talent of the participants on display at the races is incredible to witness. The connection between rider and horse is truly something special.

We are always grateful for the opportunity to spend time out in the community and to contribute meaningfully in the ways we are able. We will continue working on projects and hosting volunteers through the conclusion of our season at the end of September.

Re-Member On The Road

We're hitting the road twice in the coming months to visit volunteers and supporters across the country. In September, we'll be traveling through Iowa, Missouri, Kansas and Nebraska. Then, in October, we're heading to New England and New York.

We plan to host several evening meet-and-greet events as we travel. Stay tuned for invites if you're in the area. We hope you can join us!

Are you interested in having Re-Member staff visit your community? Let us know by replying to this email. We're happy to discuss possibilities

What Will Your Legacy Be?

Because August is National Make-A-Will Month, it’s the perfect time to create or update your will and reflect on the values that shape your life. If Re-Member’s mission resonates with you, we would be honored to be part of your legacy.

Every planned gift—large or small—helps us continue our vital work: building relationships, responding to immediate needs, helping to warm homes in winter, growing fresh and nutritious produce, and expanding opportunity across the reservation as we build a better tomorrow.

If you would like more information about how to create a will or include Re-Member in your plans, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re happy to help.

Man moving lumber

Thank you for continuing to keep up with the Re-Member story. We are so grateful for our community of supporters who help carry our work forward every day. Now is a great time to begin thinking about your next visit. Our trip calendar for 2026 will open on Monday, September 15! We hope to see you on the reservation sometime soon.

Sincerely,
Will Paese
