Advancing Re-Member’s strategic priorities
Cory True serves as the inaugural Chief Executive Officer of Re-Member, bringing extensive knowledge of the organization, nonprofit leadership experience, communications expertise and a longstanding commitment to Re-Member's work alongside the Oglala Lakota Nation on the Pine Ridge Reservation.
His relationship with Re-Member began in 2008, when he traveled to Pine Ridge as a college student participating in an alternative break program. He returned after graduation in 2009 as a program supervisor and again in 2010 in an operations and program management role, gaining firsthand experience with Re-Member's volunteer programs and day-to-day work on Pine Ridge.
That initial experience grew into a much longer commitment to the organization. From 2010 to 2018, True served on Re-Member's Board of Directors, including two terms as board chair. During his tenure, the organization completed its first $1 million capital campaign, supporting development of Re-Member's gardening program and its Porcupine property.
In 2019, True became Re-Member's fourth Executive Director. Over the next five years, he helped guide a period of significant organizational development, including substantial fundraising growth, a comprehensive rebranding and marketing initiative, board reorganization and the initial phases of strategic planning.
From 2024 to 2026, True served as Senior Advisor for Strategic Initiatives, working closely with senior staff and the Board of Directors on communications and marketing, board development, strategic planning, stewardship and other institutional priorities. His appointment as Re-Member's inaugural CEO reflects both continuity with the organization's history and a new phase in its development as it strengthens its organizational capacity, financial sustainability, external partnerships and long-term impact.
True is a graduate of Saint Anselm College in Manchester, New Hampshire, where he earned a bachelor's degree in politics. Following graduation, he spent eight years in the college's communications and marketing office, supporting academic, advancement, enrollment management and student life initiatives. In his later years at Saint Anselm, he provided executive communications and speechwriting support to the college president and contributed to communications surrounding nationally televised presidential primary debates and other major media events.
Throughout his career, True's work has centered on the intersection of mission, communications, relationship-building and organizational leadership.
He lives in Spearfish, South Dakota, in the northern Black Hills.
