July Update

 

Everyone here at Re-Member sends their best and hopes you had an enjoyable holiday weekend. We certainly did! We spent the weekend down the road at the Batesland Powwow, watching several fireworks shows and enjoying the summertime vibes with friends, relatives and volunteers. There’s nothing like coming together, getting outside and embracing the spirit of celebration. Good times, good people – we are grateful for our community!

Our work continues as the summer heat cranks up. Temps have climbed into the high 90s, and it looks like we will hit triple digits several times next week. We appreciate the commitment of all those who come out and support our work despite the heat. As a Re-Member volunteer once said, “I never said it would be easy, I only said it would be worth it”.

Summer is the busiest part of our year. Week in and week out we host volunteers from across the country and around the world who make the trip to join us on Pine Ridge. People who give of themselves to work hard and benefit others. Who take a step back so others can take a step forward. Who listen, learn, and reflect; taking the time to allow others to inform their thoughts, perspectives and actions. All while making a meaningful and tangible difference in the community.

Last week, we hosted groups from Colorado, Michigan, Texas, Maryland and Massachusetts. This week, from California, Iowa and Illinois.

Next week, folks will join us from New York, Maryland, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Texas and Thailand!

It’s inspiring to see so many people from so many places come together in the pursuit of a better today and tomorrow here on the reservation and around the world.

Re-Member On the Road: Coming soon to Illinois & Wisconsin

We are hitting the road again this August to visit folks in the greater Chicago area, as well as various stops around Wisconsin. Join myself and former director, Cory True, to visit and learn more about current happenings on the reservation. Enjoy the company of fellow Re-Member volunteers over lite bites and sips.

Help Re-Member Expand our Fleet!

Re-Member is on the hunt for a reliable, efficient, and new-to-us staff vehicle to keep our team moving. If you have a vehicle you are looking to donate or sell at a bargain, we would love to connect!

What we are looking for:

  • Type: Small SUV with All-Wheel-Drive (AWD)

  • Examples: Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, Mazda CX-5, Chevy Equinox, Ford Escape, or similar

  • Condition: Under 80,000 miles and less than 8 years old

The season is flying by, but we are thankful for all the memories made along the way. It’s the people that make this program so special and we are reminded constantly of just how much those in our community mean to us. Thank you for your continued support and for keeping up with our story!
